Neighborhood Watch Now Sponsored by Your Town Council

In response to the increasing concern about crime in our community, Mission Beach Town Council is now sponsoring Neighborhood Watch and encourages all members to become involved.

A successful program depends on Block Captains, leaders who will help organize our community block by block, learn crime prevention and reporting techniques, and work closely with the San Diego Police Department to make our neighborhoods safer.

If you’re interested in participating in the Mission Beach Neighborhood Watch program, please contact the chair:
Kimberly Wise. They can put you in touch with the nearest Block Captain or work with you to establish a program in your immediate area. We currently have 33 active captains and are always looking for more neighbors who want to help make our community a safe place to live and play!

Little Things You Can Do

Bill and Sarah recently met with Captain Boyd Long, from the SDPD Northern Division, and one of his officers who routinely works in the Mission Beach area. When asked how residents could help in the police’s efforts to make our neighborhoods safe, they had some very simple requests:
  • Lock your doors.
  • Install window locks and blocks to prevent your windows from being opened easily. These can be found at the hardware store.
  • Install motion sensitive lights on the outside of your home. Make sure they are placed high enough the light bulbs cannot be easily loosened by an intruder.
  • Secure everything in your car. Don’t leave any items in sight.
  • Use a steering wheel lock if you park your car on the street.
  • Don’t hesitate to call 911 in an emergency or 858-484-3154 for other issues.

Mission Beach’s Community Relations officer is Officer Larry Hesselgesser. Feel free to e-mail him if you have additional questions, would like to discuss an on-going issue in your area of Mission Beach, or would like to set up a Neighborhood Watch meeting with your neighbors and a police officer
